Big owie at the pumpkin farm

We had great plans today.  After Evan let me sleep in we were going to go visit all the best pumpkin farms in town.

We went to the first farm where Graesen played in a kid-sized cabin and threw a big temper tantrum.  Once he got some lunch he was as happy as could be.  We have discovered that Graesen falls apart when he is hungry.

At the second farm Graesen had a great time playing around the pumpkins.  He thinks that pumpkins are for sitting on and absolutely loves them.

We were heading to the fields of pumpkins and corn and Graesen was running as fast as he could.  He had already tripped and fallen once, but was unfazed.  Next thing we knew he tripped and fell hard into a little wooden post that was at the edge of one of the gardens.  He immediately started screaming.  Evan picked him up and he just cried and cried.  At that point we couldn't tell how bad it was and thought that it was mostly just a scratch.  I took a picture or the sad boy not realizing how bad he was hurt :(

We walked around holding him for a bit and realized that his nose was starting to swell.  He was starting to bruise on the bridge of his nose and a bit under his eyes.  We were worried his nose might be broken and weren't sure if it needed to be looked at or not.  I called the on-call nurse and she was worried about a head injury.  She thought he sounded like he would be okay, but it can be hard to tell with toddlers.  She told us we could watch him closely for 12 hours, setting alarms to check on him throughout the night, or bring him into urgent care.  Since I was not going to quit worrying about him we decided to take him in to be looked at.  When we took his hat off in the car we saw that he also had a swollen, red ridge going all the way up his forehead.  It was probably a good thing he was wearing a hat, because it gave him some cushioning.  We also saw that he had some splinters in his lip and hand.  He got lots of attention at urgent care, because he looked so sad and beat up.  The doctor said there were no bone fragments loose in his nose and no sign of concussion, so that was very good.

The pictures don't show how bad it really looks.  I think it is because of the natural shadows of his face kind of make it hard to see the bruising in a picture.  His nose is still swollen, scratched, and purple.  He is acting like his usual self but does not want anyone touching anywhere near his nose at all.

We took him to frozen yogurt to cheer him up after urgent care.  It definitely worked :)

We will have to go back to the farms to do the corn maze (we already bought tickets) and get carving pumpkins.  Hopefully the next trip goes a lot better.
