Busy week, busy weekend

Last week was so busy with appointments and work, then we just kept on going straight through the weekend.

Friday after work we went for a run.  I just put the running stroller in my car, so we could run right away.  We went on part of my old high school cross country course.  Graesen asked me over and over if he could run races with me someday :)  He also asked me repeatedly why I was "not running" and telling me to not go so slow!  I was running, but some little stinker sure makes for a good trainer!

After running we went to the gym for open swim.  It was cold, but Graesen didn't mind one bit.

Then if that wasn't enough, we went to my parents' house afterwards (Phoebe was spending the night there) where Graesen and Phoebe played.

Yesterday we went to watch my sister try on some wedding dresses.  Graesen and Phoebe just played with toys the whole time.

After that we went to the apple orchard again.  We love apple festival season!  The sheep made an escape from their enclosure while we were there.  It was hilarious!  They actually went back in by themselves when they were done with their fun :)

This morning we went to church, then I dropped Graesen off for his visit with Evan.  I then spent the day cleaning.

Dentist

Graesen had an early morning dentist appointment today.  He did his usual freak out when the dentist tried to check his teeth, but he liked all the other stuff he got to do in the office.  His teeth looked great :)

After the dentist we had some time to waste before work, so we went to starbucks for a little treat.

Casting

Today Graesen had his casting appointment for his orthotics.  They should be ready in a couple of weeks.  He did so good with the casting and sat patiently.  He got to choose the design he wanted on his orthotics, and of course went with the one that had cars, trucks, and airplanes.  He also chose blue foam and red velcro.  The therapist who makes the orthotics did confirm that Graesen will definitely need ones that go up over the top of his ankles and work like a brace.  She said that at this point he pronates so much that he needs help stabilizing his ankles.  He should be able to get shorter orthotics as his tendons strengthen with age.  Apparently they were talking about Graesen before his appointment, because he has morton's toe (short big toe joint-he definitely inherited that one from me) which makes his feet a little more complicated.
I am worried about finding shoes that will fit with such big orthotics.  I was told that insurance will actually cover one pair, which is nice, but I'm sure we will have quite a search to find shoes that fit right.
I didn't get a chance to talk to the therapist who evaluated Graesen, because she was busy with other things.  I did mention to the one doing the castings my concern about the low normal muscle tone diagnosis.  She looked at his legs a little and said that he does have low muscle tone, but she isn't too worried, because other than his feet he has no other problems.  She said he will likely grow out of it. (This therapy office is a comprehensive therapy office and they help a lot of children who have a variety of developmental and/or physical problems, so I am sure that to them a kid with just a little bit of low muscle tone is no big deal at all). I will definitely talk more to the other therapist when we go back for fittings, since she is the one who watched Graesen run, jump, climb, etc.  I want to make sure that if there is anything I can be doing to help Graesen increase his muscle tone that I am doing it.  I would love to put him in a sport to help him increase his strength (like gymnastics), but it is so expensive!  I checked the YMCA since we are members, but all their tumbling classes are during my work hours :(  If the therapist believes it will help Graesen catch up with his peers, then I will just deal with how expensive sports are.

Yesterday we had a fire drill at school.  Afterwards we went to the playground and Graesen could not stop worrying/talking about the fire alarm.  The kid has a serious phobia of fire alarms.

Braver all the time

Tonight I took Graesen to get his hair cut.  I could not believe how brave he was.  He used to get scared, but this time he just hoped right up there and smiled/talked through the whole thing.

After that I took him to get his flu shot at the urgent care clinic.  There are so many viruses going around our school, that it makes me nervous.  I got my shot yesterday at a pharmacy and I am so glad that Graesen has his now too.  He was a little nervous about the whole thing, but when the time came he just sat in my lap and didn't fight it at all (if you have ever seen Graesen's distrust for nurses, this is huge!)  He didn't even cry!  He just said, "owie," hopped off my lap and then said, "I want to get out of here!"  I was amazed at how well it went :)

Party Party

Yesterday Graesen and I had a busy day of fun.  We started out with a trip up to a farm.  It was first weekend of apple festival, but it was so hot out it felt a little weird to be picking apples and walking by pumpkin patches.  We picked a few apples, Graesen played in the pea pit, and I let him ride the little wiggle worm tractor ride.

We couldn't stay at the apple farm long, because we had to be at Phoebe's 4th birthday party.  Phoebe was nice and even let Graesen open one of her cards for her :)  Sadly, though, she wasn't too excited about the happy birthday singing or candles (until she saw that Graesen was about to blow out the candles for her).

Hiding while everyone sang to her:

After Phoebe's party we caught the last hour of a birthday party for little guy from my school.  It was at the roller rink.  This was Graesen's first time and it was hilarious!  The first couple of minutes he fell every couple of seconds, but after a quick break he was ready to go for it again.  He grabbed one of the trainer things and took off!  I mean really took off.  He started skating as fast as he could across the rink!  He would go super fast, fall every couple of minutes, then get right back up and go at it again.  By the end he was so tired and sweaty, but I still had to drag him out of there :)

Today I just got a couple of sweet pictures of the little guy sitting on "his rock" after church.
