A couple weeks ago we drove across the state to join my sister, brother-in-law, and niece for a camping trip near the ocean. Caedmon was the perfect traveler on the way there. We drove 6 hours the first day and stayed at my sister's house for a night. The next day we drove about 3 hours to our camp ground. We did the same thing on the way home (in reverse). We felt that 9 hours in the car would have been too much to handle with a 3 month old.
It was very cool and extremely windy for much of our trip. Highs were in the 60s, although the wind made it feel much cooler. We had to keep Caedmon bundled in snow gear a lot of the time. The last day, however, we had record breaking highs. We went from cold and uncomfortable to very hot.
It was the kite festival while we were there, so we got a kite for each boy. Jace chose a dragon, Graesen chose a space shuttle, and we picked out a simple train for Caedmon.
We visited town several times, went to the kite festival twice, visited a Lewis and Clark national park, climbed a tower to see a great view, and of course spent a lot of time on the beach.
On our first day we saw several porpoises swimming off the jetty which was fun to watch. The last day, however, was one we won't forget. We were so fortunate to see a pod of humpback whales swimming maybe 75-100 yards off shore. The were feeding, so they stayed a long time and gave us a great show. I've been looking for whales my whole life, so that was definitely the highlight of the trip.
